How we work

Our approach is calm and personal from the moment we arrive. Your wedding day should feel effortless, present, and fully enjoyed — not like a nonstop photoshoot.  We begin with the details: your dress, florals, stationery, etc. From there, we naturally guide the flow into getting ready moments, bridal party portraits, first look, and the in-between interactions that often become the most meaningful photographs.

Throughout the day, we stay connected with your planner and family to keep everything moving smoothly and on time. During portraits and family photos, we give clear direction on posing, hand placement, and natural movement so everyone feels comfortable and confident in front of the camera — especially couples who have never worked with a professional photographer before. Our goal is to create timeless imagery while keeping the experience relaxed, organized, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone involved.

Our Style

Our editing style is clean, timeless, and focused on natural color, emotion, and atmosphere. We’re not heavy on trendy filters or editing fads. Instead, we edit each wedding based on the light, environment, and mood of the day. We pay close attention to skin tones, texture, rich sunsets, natural greens, and properly exposed skies so your photos feel elevated and true to life.

Beyond the portraits, we focus heavily on storytelling and candid moments. We’re constantly observing reactions, movement, and energy so we can capture moments naturally as they unfold. While we create polished portraits worthy of printing and hanging on your walls, some of our favorite images are the real, unscripted moments filled with emotion, connection, and personality.

Nick's eye, color palette, and editing skills were what drew us to him initially. Once we started to work with him, what stuck with us was his professionalism and his responsiveness. He put us at ease knowing that we didn't have to worry about our photos turning out well.

On the day of our wedding, he was adaptable but also kept us to a timeline. We got all the photos we wanted and they all looked so good. Thank you so much Nick!

FAQ

how soon in advance should we book?

I typically book 3–6 months in advance for portraits, and 8–12 months for weddings. However, I always welcome last-minute magic when possible. We offer payment plans for all of our collections for your convenience as you plan your wedding.

how many photos can we expect from our wedding? And how soon do we see them?

Every wedding is different, but you can expect a full, story-driven gallery with plenty of variety. As a guide, 6 hours with one photographer typically delivers 500–700 images, and 8 hours with two photographers usually delivers 800–1,000 images (longer days and multi-event weddings often reach 1,000+). We curate tightly so every photo earns its place—candids, details, portraits, and the in-between moments—without feeling repetitive.

Photo editing can take up to 8 weeks during peek season, and 5 weeks during low season. You'll get a preview gallery the week of the wedding.

What is your style and approach?

Calm, easy direction when you need it—simple prompts so you never feel awkward. I’ll guide portraits step by step, then shape it all to look natural and feel like you. The rest of the day, I blend in and document the real moments as they happen, finished with bright, true-to-life editing that keeps skin tones natural and colors clean. We have a classic Kodak Film Portra look that is timeless and flows with the lighting from each event.

Why do couples trust nick and his team with their wedding day?

After 10+ years of photographing weddings, we’ve learned that what couples want most isn’t trendy poses—it’s the freedom to be fully present and trust that their story is being captured honestly. American Portra is for couples who want images that feel elevated but real: guided when you need it, candid when it matters, and always focused on the joy, connection, and people you love most. If you want a team that keeps the day calm, makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera, and delivers a gallery that looks like the best version of you—that’s what we do.
