How it began
Nick started his photo career in 2013 as Nicholas Gonzalez Photography. We went through a rebrand in 2020 and the rest is history.
As the business grew, so did the team—Rosie officially joined the team in 2021 after our first daughter was born. What started as being Nick's assistant photographer, quickly turned into a full-blown love affair with weddings and planning.
The name American Portra originated from an Adobe Lightroom preset Nick created for his signature look. The name always stuck out as iconic and timeless. Portra is the original film type that Kodak used in the days of film.
We currently offer photography, videography, and planning as a husband-and-wife duo, backed by a small, trusted team of editors, shooters, and storytellers who make the magic happen behind the scenes. We also have an extensive vendors list that we can provide to match your vision.
When we’re not at weddings, we’re at home raising three amazing kids. Life can be pretty hectic, however we look for those special moments where we can be present and enjoy our time together. We love our wine-country roots, but we’re always open for a road trip—or a destination wedding—whenever adventure calls. If you’re looking for a team that’s experienced, organized, creative, and actually fun to hang out with on your wedding day… that’s us.

Nick
Nick is the owner of American Portra and the kind of person who’s always chasing a good story, a strong espresso, or his next meal. He’s a laid-back creative at heart with a love for travel, street photography, comics, hiking, filmmaking, and spending time with his wife and three kids. When he’s not behind the camera, there’s a good chance he’s at the gym, building tiny homes with his brother, or brainstorming his next business idea. His personality and approach to weddings are relaxed, genuine, and easy to connect with — he’ll never say no to strong coffee or a shot of tequila.

Rosie
Rosie is the heart of the team — incredibly kind, thoughtful, and the type of person who’s always making sure everyone around her feels comfortable and cared for. She has an eye for detail, a calming presence, and brings so much warmth and intention into every wedding day. She loves dancing on all occasions, painting, flowers, jazz, spending time with family, and road trips. When she is not planning weddings, she is caring for her adorable children.

Nico D'Carpio
Our lead filmmaker, Nico, oversees every aspect of the video experience—from your initial consultation to final delivery. He personally films, edits, and manages client communication throughout the process, ensuring a seamless experience and a film that feels authentic, emotional, and uniquely yours.
