Estancia La Jolla Indian Wedding | Krupa & Saurabh's Two-Day Hindu Wedding
If you've never been to a South Asian wedding, it's hard to appreciate just how much planning goes into a weekend like this.
Krupa and Saurabh's wedding at Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa wasn't just one ceremony—it was two full days of family traditions, celebrations, incredible food, live entertainment, and hundreds of guests coming together from all over to celebrate.
I arrived Friday evening around 8:30 p.m. Since we live about an hour from La Jolla and photography started at 7:00am the next morning, staying on property meant I could be completely focused on the weekend instead of worrying about travel or traffic. Walking through the venue the night before, vendors were putting the finishing touches on the ceremony tent, arranging tables, building the mandap, and preparing everything for the next morning. Seeing everything come together before guests arrive is one of my favorite parts of photographing weddings.
Day One | Traditions, Family, and Taking Your Time
Saturday started with breakfast before everyone gathered for the morning ceremonies. One thing I appreciated about Krupa and Saurabh's wedding was the pace. Indian weddings are often packed with events, but this weekend never felt rushed. Everyone had time to enjoy each ceremony, spend time with family, and actually be present.
While Krupa participated in her pooja and haldi ceremonies, another important family tradition was happening nearby as a young family member celebrated his own rite of passage into young adulthood. Moments like that are easy to overlook if you're only focused on the couple, but they're part of what makes South Asian weddings so unique. Multiple generations are involved, and there's often more than one meaningful story unfolding at the same time.
The weather couldn't have been much better for late June in La Jolla. Sunshine with scattered clouds kept the ceremony comfortable throughout the morning before everyone gathered for lunch.
Music Night That Felt Personal
The evening celebration wasn't a traditional dance-focused Sangeet.
Instead, Krupa and Saurabh built the night around live entertainment and experiences they genuinely enjoy. Guests moved between live music, a violin performance, incredible food, desserts, and an Esco Gelato cart—a detail that meant much more than most people realized. It was the same company connected to Saurabh's proposal, making it one of those subtle personal touches that told part of their story without needing an explanation.
Those are the details I enjoy photographing the most. They give the wedding personality.
Wedding Day
Sunday started early again with breakfast before everyone prepared for the baraat.
Instead of arriving on horseback, Saurabh made his entrance in a Razer Electric Car, which was a fun twist that fit the relaxed personality of the weekend. Family and friends danced their way toward the ceremony before gathering beneath the mandap at Estancia La Jolla for the wedding.
After photographing South Asian weddings since 2021, I've learned that no two celebrations are the same. We've photographed Hindu, Sikh, multicultural, and fusion weddings, along with Polish, Korean, Chinese, Mexican, Polynesian, Russian, and many other cultural celebrations throughout Southern California. Every family has different traditions, timelines, and expectations. The biggest thing I've learned is to understand what's happening before it happens so I can anticipate moments instead of reacting to them.
Following the ceremony, everyone enjoyed lunch before the weekend wrapped up in the afternoon—a refreshing change of pace from receptions that continue late into the night.
Making Camera-Shy Couples Feel Comfortable
Before the wedding, Krupa mentioned that she and Saurabh were nervous about having their photos taken. Honestly, that's probably the most common thing couples tell me. Almost nobody spends their weekends in front of a camera.
My approach has never been about putting couples into complicated poses. I give enough direction to help you look your best, then let the real interactions happen naturally. By the end of the weekend, one of the best compliments they gave me was that they actually felt comfortable. That's always the goal.
Working Behind the Scenes
This wedding was also special because Rosie served as the lead planner through Sweet Love Designs. Watching months of planning come together while photographing the event gave me a different appreciation for everything happening behind the scenes.
Photography was a team effort as well. Siddanth joined me for Saturday's coverage, while Moses photographed alongside me on Sunday. Large South Asian weddings move quickly, and having a team that understands the pace and traditions helps ensure every important moment is documented.
Planning an Indian Wedding at Estancia La Jolla?
Estancia La Jolla is one of San Diego's best venues for a multi-day South Asian wedding. The property offers beautiful outdoor spaces for ceremonies, plenty of room for multiple events across the weekend, and a layout that allows guests to move comfortably between celebrations without ever feeling crowded.
If you're planning a Hindu, Sikh, fusion, or multicultural wedding in San Diego, experience matters. Understanding the timeline, family dynamics, and traditions allows us to focus less on figuring out what's happening and more on documenting it in a way that feels natural.
Krupa and Saurabh's wedding was a perfect example of that. Thoughtfully planned, relaxed, and centered around family. It was a privilege to be part of the weekend and document their story.
